EVERYONE IS DEFICIENT
A recent article from the Journal of the American Medical Association reports that most Americans do not receive enough vitamins from their diet alone. Specifically the report states, "Insufficient vitamin intake is apparently a cause of chronic diseases.... A large proportion of the general population is apparantly at increased risk for this reason.... Most people do not consume an optimal amount of all vitamins by diet alone.... We recommend that all adults take a multivitamin daily."
(Fletcher RH, Fairfield KM. Vitamins for chronic disease prevention in adults: clinical applications. JAMA 2002; 287(23): 3127-29)
While this report is true, the information is no surprise as this is what I have been saying and practicing for over 10 years. As well, it states that all adults should take a daily multivitamin; How about our children? Who honestly believe that a child's diet is so superior to ours that they don't need a multivitamin? My children take multi's every day.
If you and your children are not taking a multivitamin you are at increased risk for chronic disease. If you are not taking a mulitivitamin, talk to Dr. McCarthy immediately.
